Merage Foundations - Negev, where dreams come true

Center for Iranian Studies

Together with Lord David Alliance of Great Britain, Merage Foundations Israel established the Center for Iranian Studies at Tel Aviv University as an interdisciplinary research center. Officially inaugurated in April 2006, the Center promotes knowledge and understanding of Iran, as well as advances research pertaining to the Jews of Iran throughout history under the auspices of the Dr. Habib Levy Program for Iranian Jewish History. In just two years, CIS has become an international focal point for the study of modern Iran and the history of the Jewish community of Iran.

Through innovative research, conferences, colloquia and lectures by local and visiting scholars, the Center promotes exchanges across a variety of disciplines among scholars who focus on various aspects of Iranian studies. The Center publishes articles, books, and research papers and hosts seminars for politicians, educators, students and lay people interested in issues related to Iran. CIS includes four full-time professors who are world renowned as specialists about Iran and Middle East as well as 12 graduate students. The Center is also currently promoting the renovation of library space at Tel Aviv University to house the extensive Habib Levy book collection.
